UK drivers have amassed a staggering 10.6m points on their licences, according to official data from Vantage Leasing.
As of March 2019, over 2.7 million UK motorists (roughly 6.65% of licence holders) have at least one point on their driving licence. Between them, this amounts to 10,620,498 combined points; that’s four for every driver with a conviction. Shockingly, 11,021 of these motorists have over 12 points or more.
Furthermore, the Institute of Advanced Motorists have found licence points cost UK drivers over £132 million a year in higher insurance premiums. As a result, 1.45 million motorists caught for driving offences have instead opted for training courses rather than collecting points.
But which UK postcodes have drivers with the most points?
Halifax (HX) has a whopping 10,758 (9.62%) of 111,820 licensed drivers with points. Bradford (BD) and Huddersfield (HD) came close in second and third, with a 9.46% and 9.04% share of penalty points each.
On the other end of the scale, the UK’s best motorists are in Canterbury (CT). As 12,254 of its 329,679 licenced drivers have penalty points, it boasts a share of just 3.72%. Tunbridge Wells (TN) came in second with 4.16%, while Bromley (BR) rounded off the top three with 4.25%.
